Cut out two heart shapes on fabric of choice. Cut them out at the same time so they match in size. I cut out my heart with paper first and then traced on to fabric.

Use a tape measure to measure the entire length around the outside of you heart. Take that number and times it by 1.5. That will be the length of your ruffle. Cut out a strip of fabric that is the length you just came up with and 5.5 inches wide.

Sew the two ends of your strip of fabric together (good sides facing when you sew the ends together) and then turn right side out and fold it in half (wrong sides facing). Use an iron to make the fold crisp.

Sew two rows of basting stitches around the ruffle. The first one will be 1cm from where the folded fabric meets and the next one will be 1cm from that.

Pin the ruffle to the top and bottom of the heart (I pin where the ends are sewn together to the bottom of the heart. Gather your ruffles so that it is gathered evenly on both sides. I use clips to keep the ruffles in place. Your ruffle should be facing towards the center of your heart and you are pinning the folded/basted edges. It also helped to fold over the top and bottom ruffle for the bottom point and top inverted point as you can see in the second picture below.

Sew your ruffle on by sewing in between the two basting stitches but leave a 4 inch opening at the bottom. I start at one bottom corner and sew all the way around the heart, stopping 4 inches before the other bottom corner.

Lay your heart down with the ruffles facing up and make sure they are folded in facing the center of the heart. Put your other heart on top with good sides of fabric facing each other and ruffle is sandwiched in the middle. Pin or clip in place.

Sew over your previous stitch and leave the same 4 inch opening at the bottom.

Turn your heart right side out by pulling it through the opening you left. Remove the outside basting stitch (you will see it because we sewed between the two basting stitches so one is inside the heart and the other is still showing on the outside). Iron your heart.
Stuff your heart with scrap fabric, poly-fil, t-shirt scraps, etc. Overstuff it so it’s nice and puffy!
Use a ladder stitch to close the 4 inch open. Your heart is done!
